CocoRosie feat. Rajasthan Roots and TEZ
I went to a couple shops around the area before the concert. Made a 50 year old Lebanese boyfriend who was convinced that we should get married since we were both single and I like middle eastern men. ;p I told him I was going to a concert with my Lebanese friend who was bringing his friend who was also Lebanese and he made a joke about me having two boyfriends. I said, yeah two, one for each arm right? He nodded his head and smiled and said oh yeah? And I replied: Insha allah! Which means God willing! He burst out laughing, and then demanded that I add him on facebook right away, he got on his computer right there and I couldn't say no. It was sweet and funny really. I left and he told me to come back to his shop for a drink sometime, without Fouad (lol). His cute little shop near the theater with the hello kitty stuff. lol. Oh life.
When I met Fouad we went inside and his friend Rami came soon, we watched the opener a Lebanese woman who had a nice style and a pretty voice... but it was nothing compared to the epic proportion of seeing CocoRosie.
Lets just say I was blown away!
I have listened to their music and liked it, but never felt like I was overly drawn to them. Now after seeing the show I cant help but think, where have I been?! Their new album is amazing, and they are so intense and experimental and beautiful.
It was the most moving show I've ever been to, because lyrically it is playful, the vocals are opera like and haunting and the atmosphere set with film behind them showed slow movement dance shots, like phantom camera action. So gorgeous, I could have cried. My heart felt really tender and it was nice to just soak in the atmosphere, and to dance, as the combination of rhythms and beat boxing and toy sounds all came into play as well. So remarkable!
