Portlandia
It has been almost a year that I have been living in Portland Oregon. Coming from the Bay Area, I think that I was well equipped for weird, but there is something about Portland people that I just can't quite figure out. They are weird. And this means a lot coming from San Francisco where weird is an everyday occurrence. We are talking strange in a way I have never experienced. In some ways I feel like Portland is a combination of Austin given the Pacific Northwest treatment. Which is to say, cold and reserved, and a little off putting. Continuing the quirky trend and being the birthplace of all thing hipster nation, Portland is its own cup of tea. Despite the negative connotation I am happy to have found this gem of a city and to call it my home. There are beautiful parks abundant, and the Willamette river has created the perfect obstacle for some sweet bridges, all setting the scene for this gorgeous city and its charms. The food is pretty good, hit or miss for the most part, and the queer scene is not what I thought it to be but in many ways pleasant, less scenester-esque. For the most part the slow pace and the keep to yourself attitude have made me a well adjusted introvert who prefers the pleasantries of my cats and the garden and the few cafes I frequent, while getting an education.
